“Swan lake” ballet, music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky
In 1877, on the stage of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater, a masterpiece of Ballet was born - the “Swan Lake”, music of the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Since then, one way or another, the history of world choreography relates to the magical "medieval" fairy tale about an enchanted Girl, a Prince in love and an evil Wizard. The plot of the legend is simple. As Prince Siegfried is coming of age his friend, seeing flying swans, calls him to hunt. The young man finds himself in remote mountains with a lake. By the light of the moon, the enchanted swans shed their wings, transforming into beautiful girls, led by Odette. The Prince falls in love with her. In the palace, at the ball, beauties dance for the prince, but he is full of memories of the lake and does not want to choose a bride for himself. Unexpectedly, the "evil genius" von Rothbart arrives with his daughter Odile. The insidious girl pretends to be Odette and seduces the prince. He takes an oath of allegiance, thereby betraying Odette. “The scene instantly darkens, an owl screams, Von Rothbart's clothes fall off, and he appears in the form of a demon. Odile laughs. The window swings open loudly, and a white swan with a crown on its head appears in the window. The prince with horror throws the hand of his new girlfriend and, clutching his heart, runs out of the castle.

It is believed that the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky was inspired to write the music to “Swan Lake” by a visit to Bavaria, where the composer saw the famous Neuschwanstein - the “swan castle” of King Ludwig II. By the way, the scenery for classical ballet performances still depicts a Gothic castle in the mountains.
The immortal score of the ballet “Swan Lake” was written by Tchaikovsky at the request of the Moscow Directorate of the Imperial Theatres, where the ballet was staged in 1877 and had terrible reviews.
The great revival of ballet took place in 1895 in St. Petersburg. The score was remembered, wishing to honor the memory of the deceased Tchaikovsky, by two great choreographers of the 19th century, Marius Petipa and Oleg Ivanov. It was thanks to the talent of these choreographers that the famous "swan" scenes on the lake appeared in the ballet - "symphonic" pictures of the battle with fate, in images full of enchanted beauty and elegiac charm. The stage swans were given a close-to-modern look - without fake wings with glued feathers. Instead, Ivanov introduced the "hand dances" that have now conquered the whole world. The duet of Odette and Siegfried appeared in the ballet as well as the famous "Dance of the Little Swans". The heroes sailed posthumously on a golden boat.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Music, unprecedented IN PSYCHOLOGICAL DEPTH AND TRAGISM, flawlessly combined with the filigree pattern of complex dance, made the Swan Lake ballet the standard of world classical choreography.
The presence of Swan Lake in the bill of any ballet troupe is the indication of the highest level of mastery of the art by its performers.
